"Catholic" Relief Services??? "Catholic" Charities???

This won't be the first time I've blogged about Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA). I'm going to be as gentle as I can be with this (for me anyway).

CRS has been in the news again, and again it is because of allegations of activities which are "compromising" to the Catholic Faith. As in the past, CRS refutes the claims, and even the respected National Catholic Register (of EWTN) is supporting their defense.

You can read all of what I'm talking about here.

Once the government is done lining its pockets with our tax dollars, much of which goes towards things that are very contrary to the Catholic Faith, I think we have to be very careful with the few dollars we have left with which to donate.

Personally, I will not (I have not for quite a while) knowingly donate funds to CRS or CCUSA. These organizations have been involved in too many instances for me to feel comfortable with them.

So read up on the latest incident, but make sure you listen to the interview I link to below. It is an interview with Michael Hichborn of American Life League (ALL). Then you can decide for yourself.

Here's the link to the interview.

  1. Hi George,

Since you were kind enough to let me post a comment about all of this last year, I hope you'll take a look at National Catholic Register's first piece (they're doing a series of in-depth articles on this) called "Catholic Relief Services’ Madagascar Aid Analyzed" at http://www.ncregister.com/daily-news/catholic-relief-services-madagascar-aid-analyzed

    Thanks,
    Jim Stipe

    1. Hi Jim. I appreciate your comments and what I believe to be your personal intentions of your work. I have, and they (NCR) have told me they will continue to report the latest information and findings. As you can see in my post, I have left it to the individual reader to also do their own fact-finding and soul-searching. I've only stated that for me, personally, these typres of issues seem to come up repeatedly, that my own financial resources are pretty limited, and that at this time I have made the decision to withhold participation. (Understanding of course that there are some things I have no control of. Some probably are not aware that some of what they donate to their parish goes to their diocese. Some of that is at the discretion of the Bishop who may then use it at his discretion. I'm not always happy about this, but that is not my personal conscience.)Thanks again.

  2. Thanks, George. A fair hearing is all we ask, which I appreciate you're doing. Thanks so much.
